Neighborhood Interactive Site
Amazon Neighbor Sherry Wellborn has initiated a website to serve our Amazon area more interactively than anything we have so far. The program and domain are ours to test and help develop for a year. Check out the early scaffolding and entries at www.amazonneighbors.com (notice the .com suffix vs the .org suffix on this non-interactive website.) You can see a fully developed site for another area at www.cortesisland.com. The template and generating energy for these sites comes from www.stonebreakerdesigns.com.
Sherry and I are hoping that Neighbors in and about Amazon jump on board, add their interests and concerns, to make this a vital Crossroads, as it is currently named. There are opportunities to review and/or add to: calendar, weather, photos, classified, articles, polls, links. So far I have found work at the site quite direct and rewarding.
I hope you take a moment to browse and maybe get as excited as Sherry and I are. There are opprtunities for folks to help with separate features of the site. You can be directly in touch with Sherry at sherry@familypost.com or with me at mulpop@efn.org. Let me declare at the outset, Sherry is the brains and inspiration. I am hoping to be a useful interface with Amazon Neighbors and the sustainability activities on streetcorner, neighborhood, and citywide levels.
What's your special interest? How can it be a vital crossroads with other neighbors? Please meet the new kid in the neighborhood and take a hand in raising him. It takes a whole village to make a crossroad's meeting interesting and pleasurable! - Erik Muller

MISSION STATEMENT
In May of 1999, the Eugene City Council adopted the following mission statement for Neighborhood Associations:
Our mission is to build community at the neighborhood level and improve the livability of the City's neighborhoods. Neighborhood Associations do this by:
Sponsoring neighborhood improvement projects and social events;
Providing a forum to identify, discuss, and resolve neighborhood issues
Establishing a two-way communication between neighborhoods and the City, and between neighborhoods and other external agencies;
Educating neighbors on issues, public process, City services, and elections, and;
Identifying and Advocating the Neighborhood Association's position on issues such as land use, transportation, public safety, and social services. |
Our neighbors are those who live, work, or own property within our boundaries.
